With more than two decades of experience in the field of intellectual property law, Melissa routinely acts as outside counsel to a wide variety of domestic and international companies and individuals. In 2014 Melissa founded LaBauve IP Law, specializing in trademark prosecution, enforcement, and complex IP transactional matters.
Melissa provides global trademark portfolio management and advises clients on how to best manage, protect, and exploit their intellectual property in multiple jurisdictions. She is deeply experienced in counseling clients with respect to negotiating and drafting intellectual property licenses and related agreements, co-branding agreements, social media, and Internet-related agreements, as well as various types of service agreements and marketing contracts.
Melissa is an active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), where she served as chair of the Trademark Roundtable Project Team and member of the Internet Committee. She currently serves as a member of the Trademark Office Practices Committee.
Melissa also acts as a mentor to entrepreneurial women. Having spent so many years in the San Francisco Bay Area, Melissa understands the pressure founders feel, and she strives to be a resource for women who want to start and grow their own businesses.
Melissa currently splits time between her office in San Francisco and she recently opened an office in Atlanta, Georgia in order to better serve clients with a presence in multiple geographic locations.
She graduated cum laude from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, J.D., and was a member of the Loyola Law Review and Moot Court team. Melissa earned her undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University.
